The event with its theme “4G –OAP Goes to Gear Up for GATS”, was chaired by our very committed and workaholic Past President Cely Simbajon-Coloma. With the support of the Education Committee composed of Drs. Melissa Anglo, Menchie Dichoso, and Cora Sipin, a menu of relevant and timely topics was prepared that are intended to make the OD not just a competent clinician but also a well-rounded individual. Engr. Lyndon C. Malanog talked about Financial Intelligence while Ms. Maria Teresa S. Loring of DTI tackled The Impact of GATS to Optometry. In public health, The Role of ODs in Universal Health Care was delivered by Dr. Saquilayan in behalf of DOH-USEC Dr. Ted Herbosa. Dr. Shelley Ann M. Mangahas of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology discussed the Tarlac Experience which is an ongoing partnership in community eye care between the Tarlac Provincial Government, local ophthalmologists and optometrists.
A five hour workshop on “Power Tools for Clinical Practice” followed and was facilitated by the following: Drs. Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso who conceptualized and organized the activity, Melissa Anglo, John Paul Lam, Shammah Toma Cruz, Shenuska De Castro, Madonna Mojica-Chavez, Salve Marie Solidum-Punzalan, Mary Christine Sipin, Benita Soltura, Liza Joan Santos with the support of the CEU Faculty led by Dean Jessica Flor-Torre, Irine Lee-Cruz, Maricar Aguinaldo-Garcia, Marco Emilio Llado, and Maria Cecilia Lintag-Yu. Three optometry externs Prendz Clarence Bulanhagui, Paula Therese Eullo and Benjie Girl Martinez also helped out during the workshops. The participants expressed their enthusiasm and desire for similar workshops in the future.
This was followed by an evening of music, fun, fellowship, camaraderie as various society presentations demonstrated the creativity and artistry of our members during the Christmas Party. Dance (CAMANAVA), Song (Cavite), magic (Quezon I) and human puppet show (Marikina) were performed by these societies with the top cash prize won by Marikina.
